You'd be astounded at the number of emails I recieve requesting a tutorial on how to make the gifs on this site. Here it is.

Foreward: What is a gif?

GIF: (Graphic Interchange Format) - A common format for image files, especially suitable for images containing large areas of the same color. GIF(pronounced as either jiff or giff) images also have the abilty to display transparency and can be compressed multiple images into a single sequence.

So What? Well the bottom line is that gifs are cool.

Part 1: What do I need to make a gif?

A program, duh. But which program? Here are some options

      • Jasc Animation Shop 3: The best all-around program for making gifs from AVI or MPEG files. The backbone of OAG and my personal favorite. <---GET THIS

      • Adobe Imageready: A fantastic product for creating just about any web image you can think of. Problem is, it only reads .mov and .mpg files for making gifs.Unless you install a plug-in I'm not sure exists.<---AND THIS IF YOU CAN

      • Ulead Gif Animator: Early version sucked hardcore. Newest version still does. Alot of useless effects and a lack of any workspace make it a tad annoying. Reads many file types but crashes very often and no "cull frames" option is horrible.<--POOP

Part 2: How do I get stuff to make gifs from?

Of course to make any sort of gif you need to either create something frame by frame or import(take directly) from a video or animation file. The dumbest and most time consuming way is to play a video file in winamp or something and try to click the screen capture button really fast. Don't EVER do that it's moronic.

Here's another big question, "Wher cun I find da movies you get teh stuff froms cn u's sends them to m3!:-))))!!"

And I quote that. The answer is anywhere. You can use Anime Music Videos, Fansubs, movie trailers, commercials, anything that is encoded in avi, mpeg, mpg,mov ext. as long as the program you use reads it. Most often I try to get Raw fansubs, that means without any subtitles. Either that or AMVs because often you'll find a load of great action scenes in a very small video with little or no subtitles to begin with. I will not get into where you can download these, if you can use a search engine to find this site, you can find Torrents or something.

Part 3: Okay jerk, so how do I make them?
